Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the 1920s. “Rei” means universal and “ki” means energy. Often ‘reiki’ is translated as ‘universal healing energy’.
Reiki promotes healing by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest system). Energy flows from the practitioner to the recipient by direct touch or at a distance. One of the most beautiful things about reiki is that it is the recipient themselves who does the healing, the practitioner simply acts as a channel for the energy and holds the space for the recipient to do their own healing.
You can read more about it in my blog - What the heck is reiki?
Reiki sessions can be as short as a minute or two, or an hour or longer!
I offer 30 minute and 1 hour sessions. In a session, we will spend some time talking about your needs, and I will send you reiki for the rest of the time.
30 minutes is great if you're new and just want a taste, or if you're pressed for time. An hour is for you if you desire deeper healing or want a longer relaxation experience.
I trained in Reiki level 1 first in about 1998! I've lost my documentation and unfortunately can't claim my lineage from my first teacher.
I trained in Reiki level 1 again in the summer of 2024 with the amazing Molly Donlan. I continued my training in Reiki level 2 in the fall of 2024, and completed the Master-Teacher level in December 2025.
The courses I've taken include over 150 hours of learning, with more than 15 hours of practicums, and endless hours of self healing.
My own practice takes a variety for forms. I say the Reiki Principles daily, often multiple times. I send myself reiki daily for at least a few minutes. I intentionally carve out longer sessions at least weekly. I also regularly receive sessions from other practitioners to help me maintain the clarity of my own energy.
Currently, one of my favourite practices is to spend a bit of time at the end of the day preparing for the next day. I review my calendar and update my to-do list. Then I sit and send myself some reiki for the following day to help all the tasks move smoothly.
What about my athletic qualifications?
I currently hold a CrossFit Level 1 Online trainer certificate
I've run three half marathons and countless 5 and 10k races
I lead women's mountain bike rides with the Wildhorse Cycling Club
I hold my AST 1 and Managing Avalanche Terrain certifications
I've mentored many women entering sports - from recruiting for rugby in high school, to helping women take their first steps in the backcountry, empowering women to find fulfillment in sports has always been a passion of mine!
Everyone experiences reiki energy a bit differently. Energy work is subtle and may be felt in a variety of ways. Some people feel warmth or tingling in the area where reiki is directed; some people feel relaxation and a feeling of well-being; some people notice physical shifts like yawns, tummy gurgles, or the desire to move; some people feel emotional responses such as happiness, joy, connection, or love; some people don’t feel much of anything at all.
No matter what you feel, it's important to remember that reiki energy is flowing and doing its healing work for you.
When you book a synchronous distance reiki session, you will get a calendar invite with a GoogleMeet link. You'll also get reminder emails 1 day and 1 hour before your appointment.
GoogleMeet is an easy to use online video platform that works through your browser. You can join from a computer, tablet, or mobile device.
At the time (or just a couple of minutes before) you can click on the link in the email to enter the video meeting. You can choose to have your camera on or off, and you can change that at any time. You're also welcome to use your microphone or type in the chat, whichever is easier for you. I can also use which ever mode you prefer. I usually leave my camera on so that you can see me.
I can play music in the background for you, or I can leave it off and you can have silence or your own music, whatever you prefer.
We start by chatting about your needs that day. You don't have to tell me all the details of why you want a session - something simple like "I feel sad" or "my hip hurts" is enough, but you can give me more details if you like.
Once we feel ready, I'll start sending reiki while I guide you into a gentle meditation to help you let go of your day and sink into the session. Many people close their eyes, but you can rest your eyes on something relaxing if you prefer - maybe some scenery, a plant, or your pets.
As we near the end of the session, I will gently guide you back into your body and space. We will have time to talk afterwards in case you have any questions or want to discuss any of your experiences.
I'll follow up with you a day or two after your session to see how you're feeling and to answer any questions that arise.

You should do whatever you need to feel relaxed! This could include
wearing comfy clothes
having a small snack and or drink before hand
turning off distractions - silence your phone, ask your for quiet from the people in your house, give the dogs a bone to chew
getting comfy - you can sit or lie down anywhere that feels good and safe to you
turning off your webcam if you feel better that way
You may want to think about an intention for the session before you arrive. Your intention could be general (I want to feel relaxed), or specific (I want to speed up my healing from an injury). They can be physical, emotional, or mental intentions. It's also ok if you don't have an intention, or want to change it in the middle. We can talk more about what a useful intention might be when we meet.

What ever feels best for you!
People usually feel very relaxed so you may want to allow for an easy transition back into your day. It's probably best not to plan for something strenuous right afterwards, unless we're talking Reiki for Athletes and you want to try out your visualization right away!
Energy work is thirsty work. Energy moves through the fascia via water. You are likely to be thirsty afterwards and should drink some water.
Sometimes emotions come up in a session. It's important to honour and process those emotions. Journaling, talking to friends or a therapist, taking a walk, or watching a familiar comfort movie can all help. If you feel that you need additional emotional support, you can find links here.
Some people are truly psychic and get very clear information while sending reiki, but these are separate skills.
When I send you reiki, I am in touch with your energy field. I can usually give you some feedback about what I notice about your energy - areas where it feels stagnant, heavy, or sticky, or places where it feels strong, light, or active - if this is something you're interested in hearing about.
Occasionally I get deeper insight about things, but if you're looking for a psychic reading, I suggest that you find someone who specializes in that skill.
